The essence of the plan for The superKuip is
that the recognizable and classic elements of the original Kuip Football
Stadium from 1937 remain but that the stadium is modernized and made
future-proof.
Modernization of operation facilities and
opportunities will assure Feyenoord the ability for structural financial
growth. Making it possible to more than double the budget for players on the
field.
The stadium will have the typical Rotterdam character: a
raw architecture of steel and concrete. The superKuip guarantees the
preservation of the distinctive atmosphere and magic of the Kuip.
The distinctive oval spectator stand-rings and
the cover of the players tunnel from the Kuip will remain and dominate the
design. The superKuip will accommodate 63,000 spectators and thus will be the
largest stadium in the Netherlands.
There will be a standing pitches behind the
goal that enhance the match experience for 12,000 of the truest Feyenoord
supporters even further. The superKuip will be the only major stadium in the Netherlands
with stand pitches, a fact to be proud of.
Supporters maintain their places in the stadium
and will sit closer to the field. The sight lines from the stands will be
improved even further. The superKuip is an initiative of Volker Wessels in
collaboration with MVSA Architects.
